And now for something completely different . . .
Instead of blogging about Clouston's first coaching experience in the big show, I wanted to float something a bit strange.
There are a myriad of reasons it won't happen, but I'd really like to see the Sens go to either Black or Maroon for their "main" color next season. I anticipate this not being a popular suggestion, as, in various blog-related-areas I have seen that disdain and disgust are the two most prevalent responses when any break from tradition is noticed or suggested(though I agree, bring back the song, re-recorded).

Hurricanes
Flames
Devils
Chicago (One maroonish this year)
Habs (Again, getting darker this year)
Caps
Red Wings
Panthers (heavy secondarily)
Sens
So, 1/3 of the league associates itself with red? That calls for a song. *AHEM*

None of these things are doing their own thing.
Can you tell me which one we are?

Coyotes (although they are very close to the 'red' side of maroon
Thrashers 3rd (though also close to red scale)
I am talking deep, blood-in-a-vial maroon.
The logistical problems
You'd have to spend a ton of money touching up parts of SBP (outside 'picto-wall' and reprogramming the 'light wall' 'noise/bruit' messages, and the rafter banners spring to mind)
All the jerseys people already have would clash / no longer be 'right'
I mean, it's not like it matters what shade of red the Centurion's cape and plume are, right?
The red of previous jerseys doesn't mix well with 'civilian' clothes, if that even matters.
And "Rev up the Red" was just . . . sad.
I just hate that we are Jonny-come-lately to the red uni party. I wish they would have went with black or maroon from the start, as it is unlikely we will ever see a change.
What am I missing here?
BONUS: Embarrassing NHL09 Goal
EDIT:* I went in NHL09 for the PS3 and mocked up what I mean (clickable). Visual arts aren't exactly my strong suit, so there are obvious improvements to be made with the equipment and even jersey 'style'.
That doesn't look too bad at all, Exx. But I've had about enough of Roy mucking up the jersey just to sell more merch. Leave it alone for a while, for the love of God!

ReplyDeleteWhether we have had enough of it or not, I'm sure you'd agree, is a non-issue to Mlarket-man.
If the masses had enough, and the number sold dropped off year after year, then you might have something.
We are not the masses. I fully expect to see a slight redesign next year (as every year) and yet another third.
Given that, I was just saying that changing to maroon would be nice: red is just too damned common. Bringing back the original black 'aways' would be fine too.
The jersey you mentioned is the only one I still have in my closet, and I have only worn it on the ice and to games: I just can't seem to pull it off in civie wear.
